MTG Cinematic Universe Unveiled

Hasbro is bringing the world of Magic: The Gathering to the screen, partnering with Legendary Entertainment to create a shared universe spanning movies and television shows. The focus will initially be on a feature film.

Legendary’s chairman of worldwide production stated, “We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering.” Legendary’s impressive filmography includes Dune, the Godzilla franchise (including Godzilla vs. Kong), and Detective Pikachu.

While the report doesn't explicitly clarify the relationship, it suggests the Legendary adaptations may be separate from the Magic: The Gathering animated series announced for Netflix. However, this could also indicate a shift in plans, potentially incorporating the animated series into the broader shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering, created by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, has become a globally popular trading card game. Hasbro acquired Wizards of the Coast in 1999.

This isn't Hasbro's first foray into film adaptations; the company has a history of bringing its properties to the big screen, including G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons & Dragons. Currently, Hasbro has multiple projects underway, encompassing new G.I. Joe films, a new Power Rangers movie, and even a Beyblade film.
