Eager to conquer the Chatacabra in *Monster Hunter Wilds*? As one of the earliest monsters you'll encounter, mastering the defeat or capture of this long-tongued frog can set you up for success in your hunting journey. Let's dive into the strategies for both defeating and capturing this beast.

How to Beat Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Chatacabra, a formidable frog-like monster, is particularly vulnerable to Ice and Thunder elements but has no specific resistances. Notably, it's immune to Sonic Bombs. Its combat style revolves around close-range attacks, predominantly utilizing its tongue, though it can also charge at you if you're too distant. Given its smaller size, weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade may be less effective due to their multi-hit nature, which excels against larger foes.

Most of the Chatacabra's offensive moves involve its tongue, making the front of the creature the most dangerous position to be in. Watch out for its lick attack and the telegraphed slam using its front limbs, which it signals by rearing up. The only notable attack from behind is when it sweeps its tongue after lifting its head skyward.

To defeat the Chatacabra efficiently, position yourself near its sides. Dodge or block its slam attacks, and exploit its elemental weaknesses with Ice or Thunder-based weapons. With this approach, you'll swiftly bring down the Chatacabra, perhaps earning yourself a stylish frog skin hat as a trophy.

How to Capture Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing the Chatacabra follows the standard procedure in *Monster Hunter Wilds*, simplified by the fact that this monster cannot fly. To prepare, equip yourself with either a Shock Trap or a Pitfall Trap, along with at least two Tranq Bombs. It's wise to carry one of each trap and up to eight Tranq Bombs to account for any unexpected turns during the hunt.

Engage the Chatacabra in combat until its icon on the mini-map shows a small skull, indicating it's weakened and attempting to retreat to a new area for the last time. Follow it to its chosen location, then deploy your trap and lure the Chatacabra into it. Once trapped, use two Tranq Bombs to sedate the beast, successfully completing the capture.
