Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released
Following a Windows 11 update (24H2), several players experienced issues launching or playing Assassin's Creed games. Ubisoft has swiftly addressed this problem by releasing patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. These updates, available via Steam, should resolve the compatibility issues. Note that the Origins patch requires 230 MB of free space, while the Valhalla patch needs 500 MB.
However, the issue persists for some Ubisoft titles. Reports indicate that Assassin's Creed Odyssey remains affected, exhibiting similar launch or functionality failures. While previous patches addressed critical problems in other games like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, performance issues may still exist. Players are advised to postpone updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a fix for Odyssey is released.
The root cause of the incompatibility between the Windows 11 24H2 update and certain Ubisoft games remains unclear. While the prompt release of patches for Origins and Valhalla is commendable, the ongoing problems highlight a need for more rigorous pre-release testing. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11.
