Destiny 2 Username Glitch: Bungie Responds

Free Name Change Tokens on the Way

Following a recent update, many Destiny 2 players discovered their Bungie Names had been unexpectedly altered, replaced with "Guardian" followed by a random number sequence. This issue, affecting players since approximately August 14th, stemmed from a bug within Bungie's name moderation system.

Bungie acknowledged the problem on Twitter (X), stating they were investigating the widespread account name changes caused by their moderation tools. They promised an update and a free name change token for all players.

Bungie's name moderation typically targets usernames violating their terms of service (offensive language, personal information, etc.). However, this incident impacted numerous players with perfectly acceptable names, some using the same username since 2015.

Bungie swiftly investigated and reported the root cause, implementing a server-side fix to prevent further occurrences. They confirmed the problem was resolved and reiterated their plans to distribute free name change tokens to all players as a compensation. Further updates are promised.

Players experiencing this issue should remain patient, awaiting the distribution of name change tokens and additional communication from Bungie.
